Young Republicans Can Endorse and Fund Democrats. What?!?!

The Bastrop County Young Republicans have launched a takeover attempt of the Bastrop County Republican Party by running 6 of their 14 board members for party offices.

They are running a candidate for Republican chair and five different precinct chairs.

Do you know what they stand for?

Bastrop County Young Republican bylaws actually allow them to endorse Democrats and to give Democrats money.

This couldn't happen, you say! But it has!!

In 2014, they endorsed a Democrat for Justice of the Peace.

And, nothing stops them from doing it again.

They have 11 voting board members. Their bylaws require only 6 people to call for a vote.  Only 2/3 of those 6 need vote "yes" to give money to Democrats.

It takes only four votes for the Bastrop County Young Republicans to endorse and fund Democrat candidates.

Here are the sections of their current bylaws:

  • The club should always endorse Republicans, however, if a candidate does not represent our party in the way the political action committee board deems fit, they can endorse a Democrat in dire situations.
  • ARTICLE 7, Section 2.  If the PAC wants to give money to a democrat. A 2/3 majority is required.
