It's All About Me

This is not #fakenews but rather truth, right out of the horse's mouth:

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.  Former Chair Albert Ellison has never been about uniting Republicans or building the Republican Party in Bastrop County.  Ellison used the Party for his own personal soapbox.  He wanted to make the Party more like him? How egotistical and self-serving!

The result was complete failure.  Republican turnout numbers were lower election over election during his nine year reign (2007-2016).  The women's Republican club disbanded (December 2014).  His last fundraiser was held in  October 2014.   He bled the bank account by paying for a Party office as a sublease to his boss, and with portions only accessible through his law office.

Albert Ellison and the precinct chairs he controls want to return to those days, a truly scary proposition for the Republican Party in Bastrop County.

Ellison says it's Chair Jeanne Raley who is destroying the Republican Party.  Really?

FACT:  The Republican Party has grown exponentially in just the two years Jeanne Raley has been chair.  Voter turnout numbers are up.  Opportunities to participate have expanded.  There is money in the bank to foster additional growth and to elect Republicans in general elections.

Attacks Appear Again

(Saul Alinsky Rules For Radicals: #7)

The following was submitted for publication here by Carol A. Spencer.

You called it, Combating Fake News With Facts!  In your post about Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals as applied by the Bastrop County Young Republicans, you said you expected the attacks to start up again (Rule #7).  Well, they have, and just a few days before an election.

Jarrett Namkin, on his Bastrop County Young Republican's Facebook, posted this FAKE NEWS, this false statement. He then urged people to vote for my opponent.
"Previously, Ms Spencer had been appointed by Chairman Raley to become Vice Chairman. She was serving as the party webmaster but resigned the position. Ms Spencer claims Chairman Raley has to authorize the action to transfer website even when majority will prevailed. The CEC created a new process to update and manage party communications. Website still cannot be managed by the public relations committee."
  1. I was never appointed webmaster, thus I have never resigned that position. Stating I have resigned as webmaster is a bold-faced lie meant to deceive you.
  2. Janet Jackson, chair of the Texas Republican County Chairs Association, in an email dated April 2017, told Dianna Greenwood "Please understand that the elected County Chairman by law is the spokesperson for the County Party through any medium."
  3. In that same email, Greenwood was directed to make Chair Jeanne Raley an admin on the Party's Facebook page.  Greenwood refuses to comply.
  4. These precinct chairs, who repeatedly and illegally demand the website, have never demanded Greenwood comply with the law as she was directed to do.
  5. In a newspaper article dated February 27, 2018, Jackson confirms that. "According to rules set by the Texas Republican County Chairmen’s Association, a local party leader typically acts as the party’s spokesperson, unless that person delegates responsibility to another member, said the association’s president Janet Jackson."
  6. The website is in the hands of the Chair, the legal spokesperson for the Republican Party.
  7. This group of precinct chairs pass motion after motion demanding people violate the law. Motions passed by these precinct chairs do not supersede the rule of law.
  8. Their objective is to fight and to cause dissent. If it were anything else, they would create their own website as has been recommended to them.  One of the PR Committee members says he knows how to do so.
  9. Just as the Democrats do not want to find a solution to the immigration issue so they can continue to pound the issue, these precinct chairs do not want to put up their own website because the issue is more important to them than the website
  10. If they were interested in obeying the law, they'd be demanding Dianna Greenwood make Chair Jeanne Raley an admin on Facebook.
  11. They are using Saul Alinsky "Rules for Radicals" (Rules #11 & #13) tactics to falsely accuse others for their own gain.
I am very proud of the work I've done for the Republican Party during my 30+ years of involvement. Anyone who would like to discuss this in detail should email me at RepublicanCarol@gmail.com.

If it's not your idea, kill it

On February 24 at 1:10PM on The Bastrop County Young Republicans Facebook page, this post appeared (highlighting added):

FAKE NEWS!  The truth is that Jarrett Namken has rejected any opportunities not of his own making.

Jarrett Namken has blocked posting any comments from these Republican leaders on his BCYR page (and these are only the ones Combating Fake News is aware of. We're sure there are more...):
  • the Bastrop County Republican Chair
  • the Bastrop County Republican Vice-chair
  • the Bastrop County Tea Party Chair
  • the Lost Pines Republican Women president
  • the Bastrop County Republican Club president
  • duly-elected Republican precinct chairs he doesn't like
When challenged on blocking these people, he blocks those commenters.

He claims he's done this because "those that write long winded rants to harass, intimidate and bully will not be tolerated".

Jarrett lies.  You decide if these are "long winded rants".  These are the only two comments posted by Russ Tepper before Jarrett Namken blocked him.

Jarrett Namken and the Bastrop County Young Republicans block anyone they disagree with so their attacks cannot be challenged with the truth.

What's it all about?

Did you know there was both a start and end date for filing applications for a place on the ballot?  Unless you're a political junkie or a candidate for office, most people don't.

Even though he had been Republican chair for eight years and run four primaries, apparently former chair Albert Ellison couldn't get it right.

He filled out his application, dated it and had it notarized. Since applications for a place on the ballot are accepted by county chairs, he then accepted his own application. But he did so two days before legally being allowed to do so

As a result, according to the Stateman, Ellison was deemed ineligible to run by the Texas Secretary of State's office.  The article goes on to point out that he cost Texas taxpayers more than $10,000. "Destroying and reprinting the 20,000 Republican party ballots will cost the county’s election office at least $12,400, which will be reimbursed by the state, said Bridgette Escobedo, county elections administrator", the article explains.

He told people Raley could agree to keep him on the ballot.  Apparently, he also didn't know that a county chair doesn't have the authority to waive Texas law.

This is why Ellison wants current Chair Jeanne Raley defeated at all costs.

In this same article, Ellison called Raley and two precinct chair candidates "divisive leadership". He started calling names before the election had taken place or one meeting had been held.

It doesn't matter how successful Chair Raley is, Ellison wants her out.  And, he's willing to sow the seeds of discord, engage in negative attack politics, and assassinate her character to do so.

He wants her out so badly that he supports a candidate who curses at meetings in front of the public and her own 12 year old daughter.

When Less is Really More

Judge Pape's recent mailing highlights in red this very worst misleading statement: “Through Pape’s leadership, The County tax rate has been lowered 4 out of the last 5 years.”

Here is the rest of the story:
He had to lower the rate!
He had no choice

The tax rate went down because the appraised property values went up!  In fact, they went so high that the rate had to go down so as not to trigger “roll back,” which would have mandated a drastic tax reduction.

If the tax rate had not been lowered, the 8% “greed” ceiling would have been broken, thus triggering a roll back petition for a vote by you, the citizens of Bastrop County.

Did your property taxes go down as the rate went down?

FACT: A lower tax rate is no benefit to the property taxpayers if appraised values climb at a higher rate, resulting in much higher property tax bills.

Say WHAT, Ms. Greenwood?!?!

As a result of  the "no" vote on supporting the Blue Santa programs in Bastrop County, people were outraged at Republican Chair candidate Dianna Greenwood and her supporters.  The comments on Facebook showed how outraged members of the public were when they watched the 9-minute meeting video.  We'd show the comments to you, but they were removed from Facebook so you couldn't see them.

Feeling the heat, at the CEC meeting just two weeks later, November 18, Ms Greenwood's behavior was out of control.

View it for yourself, and decide if someone who acts like this at a duly called public meeting should be the Republican Party Chair in Bastrop County.

Response to being asked to get herself under control:
Followed by this (warning: vulgar language):
